Crushing Lyme disease one tick at a time.
Why we need
better testing
Testing a tick for the pathogen that causes Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi) can be expensive and slow.
Blood testing can involve multiple steps or follow-ups.
Results often take days, missing the critical 72-hour window.
Symptoms can vary, may take time to appear, or may not appear at all.
Parents often want faster answers for informed decision-making.
What to do after
a tick bite
I have a LymeAlert kit
Remove the tick carefully using fine-tipped tweezers and place it in the LymeAlert Tick Crusher™.
Test the tick right away (follow instructions for use in kit).
Note when and where the bite occurred.
Set time and read results.
Use results to understand potential exposure.
Download the LymeAlert app to receive definitive results, hotspot mapping, and connection to telehealth.
I DON’T HAVE A LYMEALERT KIT
Remove the tick carefully using fine-tipped tweezers and place it in a sealed container.
Save the tick in case you want to test it later.
Note when and where the bite occurred.
Stay aware of any changes in your skin or how you feel.
Reach out to a healthcare provider with questions or concerns.
Consider at-home tick testing with LymeAlert for earlier clarity and to support next steps.

FAQ
How accurate is the test?
The test offers lab-level accuracy.
What does the test detect?
The test detects Borrelia burgdorferi, the pathogen that causes Lyme disease.
How many ticks can I test with one kit?
Each kit can test up to 5 ticks.
Does the tick need to be alive to test it?
No, the tick does not need to be alive.
How long does it take to get results?
Results are available in under 15 minutes and must be read before 30 minutes.
What should I do after I get my results?
Consult your medical or veterinary care provider to determine next steps.
When does the test kit expire?
Each sealed kit remains fully effective for up to 12 months.
Who is the test kit for?
The test is for anyone who finds a tick on themselves, a pet, or an animal. It tests the tick rather than testing the person or animal.
How do I remove a tick?
Use a sharp-tipped tweezer or specialized tick removal tool and grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. Apply gentle pressure as you pull straight up, and eventually the tick will release. Doing this too quickly can rip off the head and leave it retained under the skin.
What should I do after removing a tick?
Immediately clean the bite site with either soap and warm water or an alcohol wipe if available. You may want to mark the site with a pen to keep an eye on it. The tick is a valuable source of data. LymeAlert’s home tick testing kit allows you to test a tick at home and have results in 15 minutes. If you do not have a LymeAlert test kit immediately available, you can place the tick in a sealed plastic bag and place it into your freezer until you have a test kit available.
